Nicasio Landslide Road Repair
Overview
In 2021, Spye General Engineering implemented a road repair for property owners in Nicasio, California. Following designs by Geomorph Design and Miller Pacific Engineering Group, Steve and his crew excavated a 70’ section of road that had failed and collapsed 3’ following a large landslide movement during the winter of 2020. To repair the road, Spye General Engineering excavated down 3’-5’ to stable native material, installed a 12” corrugated drain under the road, and recompacted the road fill in shallow lifts separated by heavy Geogrid netting until the original road surface was restored. A sub drain was then excavated along the inside of the road to capture moisture moving through the slide and drain it in a safe location. erosion control fabric, rice straw, and native seed were applied to the project area to prevent erosion following completion.
